Health 2.0 consigliere, Jane Sarasohn-Kahn of HealthPopuli, interviewed the founders of Health Union to discuss their first online venture, Migraine.com.

Health 2.0 will be well represented at this weekend’s SXSW. Our own Indu Subaiya will be presenting on the panel “Health Data Everywhere: But Not a Drop to Link” along with Aman Bhandari from HHS, Gilles Frydman of ACOR, Jamie Heywood of PatientsLikeMe and Roni Zeiger from Google. Todd Park, CTO of the US Department of Health and Human Services will also be presenting, “How Open Health Data Can Improve America’s Health” on the same stage shortly after our panel.

MDxMedical, parent company of our good friend Vitals.com completed the acquisitions of HealthLeap and UCompareHealthCare late last week. You can watch Vitals.com make their 2010 Health 2.0 debut here or register to see the next Vitals.com in person.

SMART is holding a $5,000 competition, challenging developers to create web applications that provide specific functionality for patients, physicians, or for public health.  Challenge details can be found on the SMART site or on Challenge.gov. SMART is one of the recipients of the ONC’s Strategic Health IT Advanced Research Projects (SHARP).

Public comment was opened on the proposed new measures for HEDIS 2012, the latest version of NCQA‘s Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set. Comments will be accepted up until March 22, 2011.

Insurance giant, Aetna, struck a deal with Teladoc (featured at our Health 2.0 Conference way back in 2008) giving their members the option of using the proven telemedical service  to access non-urgent care over the phone.

MedEncentive,  a company that helps employers and insurers achieve cost control by rewarding consumers and doctors for incorporating “best medical practices” and advancing patient empowerment, recently announced successful study results.  For more details check out friend and CEO, Jeff Greene’s post, “University of Kansas examines: ‘Does MedEncentive work?’: The Affordable Healthcare Initiative.”

Castlight Health, a firm that debuted at Health 2.0’s conference last year and whose technology allows consumers to run side-by-side comparisons of out-of-pocket medical expenses, was listed in the WSJ article The Top 50 Venture-Backed Companies.
