Developer Challenge: Investing in Innovation

The Developer Challenge program is currently running six challenges (also known as “innovation competitions”).  Three of these challenges – which are open for registration – are public and fall under the umbrella of the ONCs Investing in Innovation (i2) program.

First, the popHealth Tool Development Challenge calls on developers to build on the popHealth open source framework, functionality and standards to improve patient care. If you like cool technology, this Challenge is definitely for you. The Challenge closes on January 20 and $100k in prizes will be awarded to the winners.  The Reporting Device Adverse Events Challenge, which is also accruing entries, asks developers to develop applications that facilitate the reporting of adverse events related to medical devices.  This Challenge closes on February 3 and $40k in prizes will be awarded for the best solutions.  Finally, the Healthy People 2020 Leading Health Indicators App Challenge, sponsored by ONC in partnership with the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (ODPHP), is challenging teams of developers and health professionals to co-design applications that can be used to solve the nation’s high-priority health problems. There are two months left in the Challenge and $15k in prizes will be awarded for the best applications.

Check back next week for a run-down on our new crowd-sourcing initiative, visit the Developer Challenge page to see what challenges best fit your interests and get excited for three competition launches this month.
