Genetic Alliance, a nonprofit that advocates for people with rare genetic disorders, will launch Reg4All in April. Utah based medical device startup Cardiac Designs received over-the-counter FDA clearance for its Iphone based device called ECG Check. It is competing with AliveCor Heart Monitor, a prescription-only device, with an over-the-counter version scheduled for release later this year.

California’s health insurance exchange, Covered California, offered $43M in grant funding under its Outreach and Education Grant program. The funding helps not-for-profit clinics and community groups direct uninsured and subsidy eligible Californians to information about health care options available on the exchange website.

IMS Health, a prescription drug data mining company, acquired Appature, provider of marketing information for healthcare companies. IMS Health aims to expand its commercial services capabilities for life sciences and healthcare organizations using Appature’s cloud based platform.

Royal Philips Electronics launched IntelliSpace eCareManager 3.9 health care platform, powered by Orb, a graphical dashboard. Orb works with Phillips’ eICU program to analyze, process and visualize complex clinical data in real time, and offers results in a visually digestible form.
