The preview of the Health 2.0 Accelerator Apps Network is now available on video

to connect and support patients, caregivers and providers.

San Francisco, November 10, 2022 - The preview of the Health 2.0 Accelerator Apps Network is now available on video - showing 7 interoperating health sites and composite applications - at http://www.health2con.com/2010/11/11/health-2-0-accelerator-group/.

The Health 2.0 Accelerator Apps Network is a growing ecosystem of web applications and services that work together - collaborating 2, 3, 4 and more at a time, serving as platforms for other apps and as interoperable bridges between apps – all to connect and support patients, caregivers and providers. This year's preview was presented at the Fall 2010 Health 2.0 Conference, during the "Tools and Unplatforms Part II: the Emerging Consumer-Centric Ecosystem" session, (www.health2con.com) moderated by Matthew Holt, Co-Founder of Health 2.0. Following the presentation, the Health 2.0 Accelerator companies discussed the process of working together to build these connected and composite applications and how others can join the network.

In his role as Lead Architect of the Health 2.0 Accelerator, Erick Von Schweber explained the architecture and standards the group is using to enable these powerful but relatively easy to implement integrations. Enhanced Medical Decisions facilitated data interoperability by retrofitting deidentified free text medical records with the addition of interoperable codes, transforming misspelled drugs to NDC medication codes and user entered symptom descriptions to ICD-9 condition codes and thus supporting action on standard data forms.

The Use Case: Maria, a 68 year old woman living in Seattle, is visiting her boomer aged daughter Lucy in Bellingham WA, where together they prepare for Maria's upcoming surgery. Thanks to the Accelerator Apps Network they can use multiple websites and composite applications to monitor and manage different aspects of Maria's health across multiple PHRs, EHRs, providers and devices without reentering data.

Maria's secure USB key from Humetrix issued by her insurance company enables her to directly launch and log into her multiple online healthcare accounts with a single password as simply as using an ATM card.  Maria shows Lucy her senior-friendly KnowMyMeds solution from AdhereTx where she simply answers questions using big buttons with large text designed to elicit and capture a comprehensive picture of her self-medication activities. MedAdherence Care Plan Manager allows Maria to manage her diabetes on her mobile or home phone in real time with text messaging and interactive voice response. Integrated with KnowMyMeds, her blood glucose readings are sent to Maria's PHR.

Lucy shows Maria how she tracks the whole family in the Congral Shared Care Plan for PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center and how Maria's KnowMyMeds data shows up in Shared Care Plan because they both interoperate with Microsoft HealthVault, a personal health application platform designed to put consumers in control of their health information. HealthVault can be used to collect and store health information that would otherwise reside in disparate systems and transfer the information between a variety of providers’ health services and systems.  

Maria nearly faints and falls when getting up from a nap, prompting Lucy to take her to Dr. Pierson, the family doctor in Bellingham. Maria uses the Humetrix iPhone App to “push” to Dr. Pierson’s iPad direct access and login in to her online health records, providing him with instant access to her personal health applications at the time of her appointment with him.. The KnowMyMeds Provider Gateway shows her doctor a landscape view of all his patients and their risk levels and outliers, and spotlights where a deeper dive with another Accelerator App may be needed. The MedAdherence Provider Portal lets lets Dr. Pierson view and understand Maria's detailed diabetes management history.

While using the Shared Care Plan PHR Dr. Pierson clicks on the integrated Medication Risk Maps widget from SURVEYOR Health to drill into her cumulative side effects, drug interactions, and contraindications. Dr. Pierson simulates the impact of a change in prescription to her medication risks and then makes a change in script to reduce her likelihood of falling. Lucy pre-registers Maria for surgery in Seattle using Microsoft HealthVault Community Connect and after the surgery copies her hospital records and discharge instructions to HealthVault. Shared Care Plan automatically places discharge instructions from HealthVault on Maria's calendar allowing  Lucy to receive  alerts to let her know when Maria forgets to take her blood pressure or when it’s out of range. Lucy also has the ability as a family care manager to set up additional alerts to help her and Maria keep track of Maria’s activities, medications and appointments.

After the demo David Cerino, General Manager, Microsoft Health Solutions Group said: “ Congratulations, this is a great way to demonstrate how sharing personal health information with trusted caregivers and health applications can improve both patient care and the patient experience.”

We've been really fortunate to have a good working relationship with Microsoft, focusing on our community to bring these pieces together, and with very forward looking folks from the Accelerator." said Dr. Marc Pierson, VP Clinical Information and Quality, PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center.

"An interesting byproduct of working together is we all started getting very clear about how our value enhanced each other and did not compete with each other and most importantly, contributed to care coordination. That's when the magic happened." observed Anne Marie Biernacki, Co-Founder and CTO, AdhereTx.

Finally, Erick Von Schweber, CEO of SURVEYOR Health, issued a call to action. "We encourage other healthcare companies to join us to add your apps and services to the network. First join the H20 Accelerator social network at www.h2anetwork.org and find others you'd like to work with. Then join the H20 Accelerator Apps Network working group to get access to our use of standards and start integrating!"

The Accelerator Network is already working on next steps in making these integrations easy to adopt and deploy in a variety of settings, and working collaboratively to define business models and agreements to begin making the Network a valuable resource for patients, caregivers, providers, and members.
