Come One, Come All: Tomorrow’s Code-a-thon

Tomorrow we kick-off the first Health 2.0 Developer Challenge Code-a-thon of 2011 on the Googleplex in Mountain View, CA!  Starting at 9:00 a.m., developers, designers, healthcare providers, patients and researchers will begin collaborating on new and exciting applications to improve health and wellness. Whether you have an idea you’ve been itching to see created, or you just want to witness what happens when great minds get together, the code-a-thon environment is perfect for you.

The event is an organic experience, and teams are formed by interest at the beginning of the event. At the end of the day full of coding, applications will be presented and judged on creativity, impact and usefulness. There will be prizes awarded for the best ideas, including Best Buy gift cards and travel to demo at the Health 2.0 Spring Fling Conference in San Diego March 21-22, 2011.

In addition to the marathon of coding, we’ve lined up some great speakers and presenters to give some inspiration throughout the day:

  • Roni Zeiger, Google
  • Matthew Douglass, Practice Fusion
  • Sastry Nanduri, HealthTap
  • Alex Tam, frog design
  • Andy Krackov and Felicity Simmons, Lucile Packard Foundation for Children’s Health
  • Stacy Elmer, Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response, HHS

Also, don’t forget that The Lucile Packard Foundation for Children’s Health will be issuing the following special challenge:

Develop an engaging, creative platform that will allow families to connect with each other and share learning experiences about obtaining medical care, educational, and related services in the highly complex system of care for children with special health care needs in California, who account for roughly 10-15% of kids in the state. Families need an opportunity to:

  • Connect with other families to share experiences in a supportive environment
  • Share resources and information
  • Package their stories and make recommendations to share with policymakers and advocates to inspire action to improve the system of care for kids with special needs.

Learn more about children with special health care needs by looking at their BRAND NEW DATASET here!!

Best of all, it’s is FREE and it’s not too late to register. We’d love to see you there!
