$3 Million Heritage Health Prize: Interview with Dr. Richard Merkin

Health 2.0′s own Matthew Holt recently had a chance to interview Dr. Richard Merkin, President and CEO of Heritage Provider Network. Richard has spent the last 30 years implementing a successful workable business model to address the needs and challenges of affordable managed health care. In this interview, Matthew and Richard get a chance to discuss the role of prizes throughout history and the lessons Heritage has taken from it’s beginnings in rural areas to a system that now covers 700,000 lives. The conversation quickly leads to important details behind the  $3M Heritage Health Prize and the impact Richard hopes it will have on the affordability of care across the system.

    I salute you in your endeavor! I like the Heritage Health Prize which, as mentioned, is greater than the Nobel prize in medicine. I know that there is a bit of controversy involved regarding the intellectual property rights, but that doesn't scare me. I hope you find the cure needed to keep patients away from the hospitals.
