Interview with Damien Leri, winner of Local Children’s Data Challenge

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to speak with Damien Leri of Team Big Yellow Star, and winner of the Local Children’s Data Developer Challenge. Damien won the challenge, sponsored by Lucile Packard Foundation and kidsdata.org, with his web-based information tool that allows users to explore various health indicators by state, county and race/ethnicity, with the goal of revealing racial disparities and areas of improvement for children’s health.

In the interview below, Damien talks about his winning application, as well as the experiences, both good and bad, that he and other developers have when locating and using public datasets.
