Video From the Clarimed Launch at Health 2.0 San Francisco 2011
Clarimed, an independent health care ratings agency, launched its online service at the September Heath 2.0 Fall Conference. Clarimed draws on data from six government databases to provide analytical insights into medical devices, diseases, procedures and manufacturers. In this video, founder Nora Iluri, a former McKinsey & Co. consultant, demonstrates how Clarimed presents information about coronary drug eluting stents. The service allows users to zero in on quality and performance statistics on each of the six approved stents. Not only can patients view the number of adverse events associated with these medical devices, but they can view specific information about what went wrong. As Health 2.0′s Matthew Holt points out at the end of the video, new services like these are encouraging to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. HHS has been working to free up certain types of health data as part of its Health Data Initiative, an effort to promote innovative uses of data for the public good.
