Allscripts released a native iPad version of its electronic health record called Allscripts Wand. Allscripts offers an ambulatory EHR with ePrescribing functionality, which is integrated with more than 50,000 pharmacies nationwide.

GreatCall launched an iPhone app called LiveNurse. In addition to 24/7 access to a registered nurse, GreatCall is offering access to a medical library and symptom navigator tool through a partnership with ADAM. To access the services, users must sign up for a $3.99 monthly subscription.

Microsoft has partnered with the City of Los Angeles Department of Aging, Partners in Care Foundation and St. Barnabas Senior Services and plans to launch its Exergamers Wellness Club to 16 senior centers in Los Angeles. Seniors in the program use Kinect for Xbox 360 for exercise and Microsoft HealthVault to manage and store their personal health information.

Adhere 2 Care released a new mobile Android app that transmits data captured by Bluetooth-enabled sensors or biosensor devices to a cloud-based web portal. Adhere 2 Care is targeting military and emergency uses of the app to take advantage of the app’s ability to be used in areas without cellular service. When paired with a sensor belt, the app also has a mapping feature that could give remote monitors a soldier’s location and body position. Adhere 2 Care has partnered with private cellphone provider Oceus Networks to set up a cellular switch in areas without cell service.

Isabel released a mobile version of its decision support software (previously only available through the web). The new iphone app generates a list of possible diagnoses when users enter an age, gender as well as signs and symptoms.

A new Alabama statewide initiative called Putting Power into Healthcare is using a data-backed network to encourage and track hand-washing. Proventix’s nGage system will be installed in 27 hospitals and will use radio-frequency badges to track quality compliance.

The Southeast Michigan Beacon Community has selected Covisint‘s cloud-based technology to host their upcoming HIE. The initial plan is to upload medical records from 29,000 diabetic patients spread across 36 practice sites.

Weill Cornell Medical College has created a new center for informatics and policy. The center’s executive director is Dr. Rainu Kaushal, chief of the Division of Quality and Medical Informatics at Weill Cornell as well as executive director of the Health Information Technology Evaluation Collaborative (HITEC) for New York State.
