Object Brest Cancer

Project Object Brest Cancer allows patients and survivors to 3D print artistic renderings of their masses based on their own MRI data. According to the site, “OBC intends its amulets to be empowering, to facilitate dialogue and bring attention to the importance of medical imaging and early detection.” The project also highlights data-ownership issues, the power of user-generated health and the role art can play in the psychological aftermath of diagnosis. While not everyone will be ready tumor-jewelry and the artistic method only lends itself to certain types of cancer (for example, inflammatory and blood cancers would be difficult to depict),  from a mind-body medicine perspective, offering patients the ability to visualize their unseen malignancy could have a positive impact.
