The National Institutes of Health and Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced that the largest database on human genetic variation is now publicly available on the AWS cloud. The dataset was produced by the 1000 Genomes Project, an international initiative that collected genotypes for more than 1000 people.

Hello Health signed 13 new practices across 10 states to its Patient Management Platform, which includes an electronic medical record, practice management capabilities and patient portal. These new deals will add up to 20,000 patients to the platform.

Rite Aid launched a mobile app for Android and iPhone devices that allows customers to get prescription refills, locate the nearest Rite Aid store and browse a weekly sales circular.

Health 2.0 is hosting a Virginia Tech Hokie Health Code-a-thon in Blacksburg, VA this month. It’s a two-day competition involving students and professional developers. In more mobile news, Castlight Health announced that its health care shopping platform is available on an app for smartphones. Castlight provides data about the price of medical services, provider quality and educational information.

Online 3-D virtual worlds might be an effective platform to train patients in meditation and other mind-body relaxation techniques, according to a small study from Massachusetts General Hospital. Patients participated in the program by using Second Life, an online virtual world. The research team, lead by Dr. Hoch, found reductions in patients’ depression- and anxiety-related symptoms. Congress approved the JOBS Act, a bill that could facilitate a startup’s ability to raise capital. Many new companies will be able to find investors online through a process called crowd funding.

In an announcement that marks health and wellness incubator WellTech‘s launch, the company said it accepted two new companies, FITiST and Wizpert, to its program. New York-based WellTech accepts up to five companies per class.

Startup incubator HealthBox will hold its demo day for its inaugural class on April 4 in Chicago, IL. New York City-based incubator Blueprint Health held its first demo day this past week. And in more incubator news, Rock Health announced that it will launch a program in Boston, MA this summer.
